If you're looking for....
the National Book Club Conference group traveling to South Africa in August 2012, then you've
found the right place. I created this space so that we can share information to make our trip to
Africa a phenomenal experience. So feel free to post any questions regarding our upcoming trip
and all others please chime in with answers and suggestions. I know some of you participated
in the last NBCC trip to Africa (Ghana) and I would love to hear about your experience to help me
prepare for this trip. I've never traveled to Africa before and I'm excited to finally realize this major
dream. I look forward to meeting you all and can't wait to begin our African adventure.

Hey Mrs. Wendy! First off, I just want to say I'm excited for you and your Africa trip! It feels like yesterday this trip was like 7 months away & now it's just next month! I hope you travel safely to and from there and enjoy yourself while you're there too (: I just have a quick question & THIS MAY BE A SPOILER FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT READ AWAKE... Do you know where I can find a picture of the ancient adinkra symbol that Micah traces on Adisa sometimes? I tried to look it up out of curiosity, but I'm not sure if one of the symbols I looked up was the one that you mentioned in your books...

a huge spoiler so I'll answer it here. As you know based
on your research, the Adinkra symbols are real African
symbols. However, the "unity" or "love knot" symbol I
envisioned is imaginary and I simply tied it into the real
Adinkra symbols. Now I'm actually thinking of including
the symbol on the cover of the final book, Ascend. Thanks

that is my dream of seeing W.E.B Debois's school and go to Botswanna,South Africa.this was effected by me seeing the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency on Dvd based on the Book series.Also, I did your superhero quiz and got all the answers right on the first try!

I also enjoyed the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
TV series. Jill Scott was wonderful in it so I was very
disappointed when it wasn't renewed. I hope some

Is your famiy coming on the trip with you? I dream of going to Africa one day.While you are in Ghana you should go see W.E.B Dubois' grave siteand school he founded.He is buried in a city called Accra.What other things are you planning on going to? Mrs.Mcnair,you are really blessed to have this experience happen to you.I pray that you and you family have a safe trip.

Hi Nia K,
Unfortunately my family won't accompany me on my
Africa trip. I'm going with a literary group to South Africa
so I won't get to visit Ghana during this trip. I'm looking
forward to visiting Robben Island, a prison where
Nelson Mandela spent many years in prison and I'm
also excited about eating some of the regional cuisine.
